HELLO!! SO THIS IS MY BRO/DI?? STRIDER COSPLAY SO FAR, AND I WANTED YOU’RE OPINION ON IT C: SORRY FOR THE IDIOTIC FACE I’M MAKING, THIS WAS THE ONLY PICTURE I GOT THAT WASN’T SUPER BLURRY;;

OH AND THE WIG ISN’T COMPLETELY DONE YET, BUT I’D STILL LIKE TO KNOW WHAT YOU THINK OF IT SO FAR!! ALSO, THE TINT ON THE GLASSES IS PHOTOSHOPPED ON SINCE I HAVEN’T DONE THAT YET EITHER;;

N says: Great so far! Hahah, the shooped on glasses make me smile. I love the colour of the wig. There isn’t really much to critique right now, so make sure to submit to us again so we can see the final costume!

D says: Definitely looks good so far! The glasses are a nice shape and seem really well made. The wig looks great so far too, definitely be sure to send  us the finished cosplay!

i'm going to be cosplaying as Lil' Cal, and i have short dark hair. i know canonically he's never seen with hair at all, but all the fanart and cosplay i've seen of him has ginger or blonde hair. thoughts?

Well it’s totally up to you if you want to buy a wig or not, I suppose. Since he doesn’t have any hair, it’s definitely okay to have him have dark hair, it just goes against a popular headcanon, but I don’t think anyone would mind at all.

Hi! I’m thinking about cosplaying Jade, and while searching for outfits I remembered I got this dress from a while ago…do you think that with a little bit of altering it could possibly be an Eclectica dress?

N says: Uh, sure? It wouldn’t be 100% accurate, but I think it could still look alright, and the colour is so pretty. I like the sparkles.

D says: What N said, and I think the biggest issue I can think of would be finding a way to print the Bec symbol on the front if it’s not smooth.

Umm, I'm really nervous about my cosplay-- is there any way I could submit it and you could could give me advice privately instead of posting it on here?

Of course! You could either send it perhaps in a fanmail (as poorly designed as they are, they’re at least private and can have links to photos.) Or you could submit it anonymously but include your email, and we’ll just email you our critique.

What's your opinion on adding things to a cosplay that are not really canon, but fit? For example, I'm putting together a Feferi cosplay (And I'll be submitting myself here when I finish the skirt, by the way!) and I was thinking of using a dark fuchsia lipstick instead of black. Or, like, I wore a Rose Lalonde cosplay a few months ago and wore this black crystal pendent that my mom gave me. y/n?

We both think that’s just fine, when done tastefully!

same dave anon as before, i want to make the broken caledscratch...but i have until katsucon. (and i still have to finish an eridan cosplay) do you think thats enough time, or should i just ditch the whole prop thing?
Anonymous asked

Roundabouts a month? I’d say yes, personally, but of course it depends on if you’re any good at building props, if you have any friends willing to help, and how far along you are on your Eridan costume.

what do you think a good cosplay prop for dave would be? (i have the red-sleeved shirt outfit)
Anonymous asked

N speaking. Swords are always fun. I believe the swords he used while in the jersey shirt get-up are the Broken/Unbroken Caledscratch, and the Scarlet Ribbitar, mainly the latter, which he uses when he fights Jack with Jade. You could also make Timetables, though by the time he’s in that outfit, he was basically done with the timetravelling… I dunno, it’s really up to you. I happen to prefer weapons.

I am telling you: submissions would be nice!

I'm new to cosplay and I'm thinking of going as Terezi, my natural hair is black and the right length and I was wondering; should I use a wig or style my natural hair?
Anonymous asked

D here, it’s entirely personal preference, really. A lot of people prefer wigs because they last the entire day with out the chance of getting messy or dirty like real hair, and are easier to hide headbands for troll horns, but they’re certainly not necessary. If you feel like you are able to style your own hair properly and aren’t worried about any of those other things, then by all means go for it. :)

Do you personally prefer wigs styled into more solid canon shapes, or lying more like ordinary hair? Like, would you prefer a John cosplayer to have a wig that's in three primary spikes, or just natural-y looking smaller spikes all over the head?
Anonymous asked

N says: I, personally, like softer, more natural looks that still reflect the canon style. That last bit is crucial, because I’ve seen way too many Johns that just have a shaggy black wig. Unstyled wigs just look lazy.

D says: I agree with N, while it should still have the same recognizable features, I think making it exactly styled like the canon hair would be a bit.. over the top. (Unless you’re going for that Final Fantasy look I suppose hehe) But I think as long as it’s short enough, because a lot of cosplayers seem to get longer chin-length wigs for John with a bunch of downward pointing spikes, and is styled similarly but still more realistic, I think it would be fine.
